When Air Life began service on August 5, 1985, the experts told us it would be financially impossible to support an air medical ambulance in our region. There were simply too few people spread over too many miles.
But studies suggested that people living east of the Oregon Cascades were far more likely to die from a serious accident or illness as their westerly neighbors. A real need exists for an air ambulance. Air Life is here to meet that need.
In just over a decade, over 4,000 of our visitors and neighbors have experienced Air Life's care. We can't do it alone. We depend on local ambulance, fire, law enforcement and hospital crews to prepare safe landing zones, communicate emergency information and begin life-saving care on the ground.
A critical care flight nurse with advanced training in heart trauma and emergency care staffs each flight. Respiratory Therapists or Flight Medics fly as second attendants. A specialty team skilled in care for expectant mothers and newborns is available around the clock.
Air Life's helicopter and airplane are flown by Airline Transport-rated pilots and maintained by three full-time mechanics. The Bell 222 UT helicopter and Cessna 421 airplane are leased from Air Methods Corporation
of Denver, Colorado.
