Pilatus PC-12
In July 1998, Air Life upgraded its fixed-wing program with the addition of the Pilatus PC-12. In October 2000, Air Life expanded the fleet by adding a second Pilatus PC-12.
The Air Life team values the special features the Pilatus PC-12 brings to patient care. The Pilatus is a single-engine turboprop aircraft from Switzerland, approved by the FAA for patient transport purposes. Its safety and mechanical parameters are unmatched.
The Pilatus enables Air Life of Oregon to strengthen the fixed-wing program by offering the following:
- Speed and endurance: The Pilatus travels 320 miles per hour, and has a 2,000 mile range.
- The equivalent of twin-engine performance and capabilities with single-engine economy.
- A pressurized cabin enabling flights up to 30,000 feet (above most adverse weather conditions).
- Instrument flight rating (IFR)/ global positioning satellite (GPS) capabilities.
- Large, state-of-the-art medical cabin.
- Ability to carry two patients, three caregivers, pilot, and on occasion a family member.
- Excellent short-field capabilities: The Pilatus stops and lands within 800 feet, and requires approximately 1,700 feet for takeoff.
- Tremendous stability in flight.
- A 54-inch cargo door which allows easy, efficient loading of patients and equipment.
